Budapest’s most famous bath

About Széchenyi Thermal Bath
Széchenyi is the bath everyone pictures when they think of Budapest: a yellow neo-Baroque palace in City Park, opened in 1913, with three large outdoor pools steaming even in the snow. Inside are many thermal pools, saunas and steam rooms. Bring a swimsuit, flip-flops and a towel, arrive early to avoid the crowds, and look out for the men playing chess in the water.
Why it's on our list
- One of the largest bath complexes in Europe
- Outdoor thermal pools open all year
- Chess players in the water
