Why patients choose Budapest
Hungary has a long tradition of dental tourism, and Budapest has many private clinics with English-speaking dentists and patient coordinators. Prices are often much lower than in the UK and much of Western Europe, and the city is easy to reach by air.
How to check a dentist and clinic
Dentists practising in Hungary must be registered as healthcare professionals. Ask the clinic who will treat you and for proof of their registration, and check their qualifications and experience.
- Ask who will treat you, and their qualifications and experience
- Ask for a written treatment plan and an itemised quote before you travel
- Ask which implant system and materials will be used
- Ask what guarantee is offered, and how problems are handled after you return home
- Read recent independent reviews, not only testimonials on the clinic’s own website
Planning your trips
Simple treatments may be done in one visit, but dental implants usually need two trips: one to place the implant and a second, often several months later, to fit the crown or bridge. Allow time for check-ups between appointments.
Aftercare at home
Think about aftercare before you start: ask your clinic for full records and X-rays, tell your own dentist about the treatment, and agree how any problems will be handled once you are home.
Insurance and costs
Private dental treatment abroad is usually not covered by public health insurance or the European health insurance card. Check whether your travel insurance covers complications, and include flights, accommodation and a possible second trip when you compare prices.

How many trips do dental implants need?
