About Shoes on the Danube Bank

Along the Pest embankment, a short walk south of the Parliament, sixty pairs of old-fashioned shoes cast in iron stand at the edge of the water. They remember the Jews who were shot on the riverbank in 1944 and 1945 and whose bodies were carried away by the Danube. Created by Can Togay and Gyula Pauer, the memorial was unveiled in 2005.
