Jewish Quarter
The old Jewish Quarter of Erzsébetváros: the Dohány Street Synagogue, hidden courtyards, street art and the ruin bars that made Budapest famous.
About Jewish Quarter
The Jewish Quarter, in District VII, was the heart of Budapest’s Jewish community. Its great synagogues, including the Dohány Street Synagogue, still stand, along with kosher bakeries, memorials and courtyards.
In the early 2000s, its empty old buildings became the first ruin bars, and today the district is the centre of the city’s nightlife, with bars, restaurants and street art on every corner.
