Castle District
The historic heart of Buda: a medieval quarter of cobbled streets on Castle Hill, with the royal palace, Matthias Church and the best views of the Danube.
About Castle District
The Castle District covers the long, narrow plateau of Castle Hill, with the former royal palace at its southern end and a small medieval town of pastel houses, churches and squares to the north.
Ride the funicular up from the Chain Bridge, walk the ramparts, and stop for cake at Ruszwurm. Fisherman’s Bastion is magical at sunrise, before the crowds arrive.
