About Memento Park

When communism ended in Hungary in 1989, many of its monumental statues were taken down. Memento Park, on the south-western edge of Budapest, brought them together in an open-air museum: heroic workers, soldiers and leaders, frozen in bronze. It is a fascinating and slightly surreal visit, best reached by bus or taxi.

Why it's on our list

  • Monumental statues of the communist era
  • An open-air museum
  • A unique piece of history

Opening hours, prices and seasonal openings change, so please check with Memento Park before you go.
