The back story

About Budapest after dark

Budapest has one of Europe’s most varied nights out: ruin bars and clubs in the Jewish Quarter, concerts on a ship moored on the Danube, summer open-air venues by the river and intimate jazz clubs.

The party district

The streets of District VII around Kazinczy, Király and Klauzál utca are lined with ruin bars, clubs and late bars, and they are busy every night of the week.

On the Danube

A38, a converted Ukrainian stone-carrying ship moored on the Buda bank, is one of Europe’s most famous concert venues, and Akvárium, under the pool in Erzsébet Square, hosts concerts and parties.

In Budapest, a night out can start in a ruin and end on a ship.

Summer open-air

In summer, open-air venues such as Budapest Park host big concerts, and the garden bars fill.

Jazz

For something calmer, the Opus Jazz Club and the Budapest Jazz Club host Hungarian and international musicians.

Our advice: start in a ruin bar, catch a concert at A38 or Akvárium, and keep valuables close in crowded bars. Use licensed taxis or ride apps late at night, and be considerate of residents in the party district.
